Dalgona Coffee

“Whipped Coffee”

The delicious coffee recipe from Korea that took the internet by the storm during the lockdown period - here we are joining the hype (a bit too late) and my take on some of this Dalogona coffee!

The name ‘Dalgona’ originate from an old fashioned Korean street snack, which has a similar taste to honeycomb toffee. Dalgona coffee (달고나 커피) is whipped coffee and it is made with 4 simple ingredients – instant coffee, sugar, hot water and milk. In short, the coffee, sugar and hot water is added into a bowl and whisked until it reaches creamy, velvety and stiff peak status. This whipped coffee is then dolloped onto your choice of cold or warm milk.

Job Done!

Ingredients:

  • Instant Coffee: 1 Tablespoon

  • Sugar: 1 Tablespooon

  • Water: 1 Tablespooon (Hot Water)

  • Milk: 3/4 Cup

  • Ice Cubes

Directions:

  1. Combine the instant coffee, sugar and hot water into a bowl and mix them well. I prefer to mix it using a handheld mixer or just a whisk to mix it at a good speed in order for the mixture to foam up. This whisking process should take about 2-3 minutes using the handheld mixer, and slightly longer if done manually.

  2. Add the ice cubes in a fancy tall glass and pour the milk over.

  3. Scoop out the whipped coffee foamy mixture, making a layer at the top of the iced milk glass.

  4. Mix it all together - sip, enjoy and relax!
